Hey freelancing and full-time journalism friends!
I hope your re-entry into the work week has been as easy as possible. Mine’s been mayhem and not exactly in a good way.
As I mentioned last week, I FINALLY deleted my Twitter account. Before I did it, I created a new Calls for Pitches/Editors list over on Bluesky, where I’ll continue to add editors as they make the transition, to keep an eye out for well-paying jobs. If you’re new to the platform, and would like to follow the Starter Pack list of editors and publications that regularly put out calls feel free to follow the Starter pack here. For those already over on Bsky and looking for an easy list to check on the regular, you can follow my list here.
This weeks’ calls for pitches and jobs are increasingly all over the place. This is expected since its the end of the year and publications are at one of two extremes: “We’re out of money and we’re laying everyone off so we can hit budget numbers,” or “We have budget to burn before everything falls apart in January.”
Remote full-time work has dwindled, which is also not a surprise given the incoming administration and the way they have approached everything from COVID to how they’re handling this transition, which quite frankly is terrifying. I fully expect a lot more “hybrid” roles to become the norm and fewer and fewer remote jobs out there. That being said here are a couple of great full-time, location based (hybrid) roles that are on my list.
If you want full access, become a paid subscriber and I’ll send you next week’s newsletter on Wednesday. I send out the newsletter once a week at 9am PT and include journalism and communications jobs that pay $100,000 or more and at least $1 per word for remote/hybrid work. I also include the email addresses of all editors, and provide insights into the publication. (I’ve worked for and with a lot of folks in the media business).
